2021 HOLY SMOKE CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Introducing the 2021 Holy Smoke, the third label of our Single Vineyard Cabernet series. This label took the most time to refine, it portrays the essence of fog moving across the vines of Napa Valley. Capturing fog with any art medium is a challenge because of the obscure way it moves and mists, but I believe Dennis McNett did a great job with this hand carved wood cut label art. I hope you are as excited to receive these wines as I am to share them with you. Please be sure to let us know any feedback, I take it to heart. So far your kind comments about the new label designs have been so encouraging.

We have just wrapped up our 46th harvest and, when you’ve been in farming as long as we have; let’s say not all vintages are predictable and smooth — but so far so good. The 2024 Soliloquy grapes came off the vine with stunning quality, that’s always a good omen.

Also, as you read this, my wife Anne and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary as we cruise around beautiful Japan with some of our Wine Club Members. We enjoy this unique way to spend time with you, and of course embark on adventures abroad. Be sure to reach out to Wine Club Manager Madeline Nossiter if you are interested in cruises and other unique upcoming club events and we’ll update you with next year’s itinerary.

Christmastime makes me nostalgic, filling me with happy memories. I eagerly await the day we put up the holiday lights and trees at the Tasting Room and see all of the annual decorations come out. I think back to my youth and the excitement of Christmas morning at Flora’s house with the family, a warm fire, and all the treats and gifts.

That excitement is what I channel when creating the holiday etched bottles for our club members. Perfecting the art and message etched and hand-painted on each bottle is a year-round passion project for me. It’s an honor that our wines grace your holiday table, becoming a part of your traditions with family and friends, our hope is that they make your memories all that more special. This year’s designs are a nod to the beauty of winter in Napa Valley and were inspired by my parent’s property in Rutherford, the Komes Estate.
