Flora Springs Release 2021 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons with new labels designed by artist Dennis McNett. Crafted to capture the story of its site, each Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon label represents our family’s journey in farming and the delicate part we play in navigating the forces of nature. One of the greatest advantages of a generational, family-owned winery is the knowledge gained over time – especially in the vineyard. At Flora Springs, we’ve farmed the same pedigree plots for some 40 years, uncovering what’s special about each site, while also managing the unexpected challenges of nature along the way. These accumulated experiences have deepened our connection to the land, enabling us to fully harness the nuanced expressions of each unique vineyard.

As illustration, we’re pleased to present three stellar examples of our Single Vineyard collection: our Flora Springs 2021 Wild Boar, 2021 Holy Smoke and 2021 Out of Sight Cabernet Sauvignons. Each distinctive wine authentically reflects its enviable fruit source, and the serendipitous combination of climate, soils, topography, nature and experience that yield exceptional, site-specific Cabernet Sauvignons.

This series of wine labels convey a sense of our approach to winemaking. One that is forged out of a deep respect for the land and the lessons it has taught us along the way. The new labels are the work of woodcut artist Dennis McNett of WolfBat Studios, who’s imaginative woodcut creations reference the complexities of nature, and illuminate our family mission to craft deeply expressive wines that authentically reflect the pedigreed places they come from. Together, the three labels aim to illustrate the story of our family winemaking journey, our abiding connection to Napa Valley, it’s exceptional vineyard sites and the nature that surrounds and inspires us.

Our Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Wines are:

2021 Wild Boar Cabernet Sauvignon – The natural world can produce unexpected challenges, like the wild boars that occasionally plunder our vineyards. They are just one obstacle as we strive to coexist with nature. Black cherry and brambly dark fruit mingle with notes of bittersweet chocolate, marshmallow and coconut. This is a broad, warmly textured wine, a Cabernet that coats the palate with pleasure and finishes long with fleshy tannins. Our 2021 Wild Boar is 100% sustainably-farmed Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a small block in Proprietor John Komes’ home vineyard on the gently-sloping western hills of the Mayacamas Mountain range in the Rutherford AVA.

2021 Holy Smoke Cabernet Sauvignon – Near dawn the fog lingers and the hills of the valley extend its stay. We call it “Holy Smoke,” as this ritual creates an ideal winegrowing climate. Blueberries and plums glide across the palate, picking up cocoa nibs, licorice, vanilla bean and graham cracker along the journey. The texture is soft and supple, with elegant tannins befitting a wine made from grapes ripened in the daily rhythm of morning fog and afternoon sun. The Holy Smoke Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single, 3.3-acre block in the vineyard planted to Cabernet Clone 4. Bordering the seasonal Conn Creek, the soils here are a combination of Riverwash and Yolo loam. The synergy between clone and soils yields a beautifully-structured, mouth-filling Cabernet.

2021 Out of Sight Cabernet Sauvignon – As hunters, birds of prey keep our ecosystem in balance. These impressive assistants of nature prefer to work quietly and out of sight. Warm and unctuous, this wine begins and ends with plush black fruit that glides across the palate, accompanied by notes of licorice, sassafras, coconut and marshmallow. Mature tannins bring the wine to a smooth finish that echoes long after your glass is empty.  Our 2021 Out of Sight Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two small blocks that slope gently down from the Vaca range to the east. This slope coupled with the Haire loam soils create a uniform and consistently well-drained site, ideal conditions for growing rich, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon.
